Domingo Savio has spent 42 years caring for children in Chile. It began as an orphanage and shelter, and around 15 years ago, when regulations changed and only government-supported organizations were allowed to operate shelters, it transitioned into an after-school education center.
Today, 47 children come here after school and stay until the evening. Many are referred because home is unstable, sometimes marked by violence and issues linked to alcohol or drugs. At Savio, they find a safe routine, homework support, and activities like dance and music. Volunteers also bring special classes when possible. A small but committed on-site team, including a social worker, supports both the children and their families.
To bring joy during the holiday season, GM Foundation sponsored 1,000 USD to purchase Christmas gifts for the children, helping them feel celebrated, seen, and remembered.
