Casa Generación

San Bartolo, Peru

Located in San Bartolo, Peru, Casa Generación was founded by Lucy nearly 40 years ago to support children living in high risk situations, including those affected by poverty, family separation, addiction, and life on the streets. Today, around 19 children live on site, receiving shelter, education, emotional support, and access to programs such as surfing, skateboarding, art, music, and theater. GM Foundation sponsored USD 4,300 to support an on site language tutor program, helping children strengthen literacy and communication skills.

Walking into Casa Generación, one thing stands out immediately.

These children are surfers and skateboarders.

Many of them are incredibly skilled at surf skating, regularly achieving top placements in community events. Some children who once grew up here later returned as surf instructors, passing those skills on to the next generation.

Sports are not simply activities at Casa Generación.

They are part of daily life.

Located in the coastal town of San Bartolo, the ocean becomes part of the healing process. Surfing, skateboarding, art workshops, music, and theater all play a role in helping children rebuild confidence, process difficult experiences, and rediscover joy.

The house itself is small. But it feels warm. More like a family home than an institution.

There is movement everywhere. Skateboards by the walls. Children running between activities. Laughter filling shared spaces.

You do not feel a place built around trauma. You feel a place built around possibility.

🌊 Surfing and skateboarding are integrated into everyday life and emotional development

🎨 Art, music, and theater programs support self expression and mental wellbeing

While confidence and healing are built through movement and creativity, education remains equally important.

Recognizing this need, GM Foundation sponsored USD 4,300 to hire an on site language tutor, providing: individual and small group tutoring focused on reading, writing, speaking, and At Casa Generación, healing happens in many forms.
